Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has called on innovators to develop technologies that are durable and able to sustain local conditions.
Speaking during the Tharaka Nithi innovation fair, Governor Njuki said his administration was ready to embrace innovations offering local solutions for local challenges faced by residents.
The County boss further revealed plans by his administration to establish a County Innovation Hub to tap into the sector and nurture the next generation of innovators, expose them to markets and patent their ideas.
“The county government will set up the Tharaka Nithi County Innovation Hub where we will house and support innovators to showcase their ideas, patent and market them to prospective clients.” Governor Njuki said.
He added that the county administration will work hand in hand with the Agriculture Value Addition chains showcased to help them scale up in a bid to provide more markets for the farmers and improve their living standards.
Among the innovations that stood out during the fair was a locally improvised animal-driven tractor with the ability to plough an estimated 7 acres of land in barely 2 hours!
