Over 15,000 litres of illicit brew as well as smuggled substances among them substandard sugar, cigarettes and flour have been netted at Chera market Tharaka Nithi County in an operation meant to fight illicit brew and fake products.
The operation which was led by Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki involved various multi-agencies including Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), National Agency for the Campaign against Drug Abuse (NACADA), Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner’s office and the ministry of health officials.
The governor said he was happy with the operation as it was successful and that it is aimed at keeping generations safe.
“I am very happy to report that step by step we are inching closer to having things done in a proper way and we will not relent. As County government, we are working together with National government in this fight.” Said Tharaka Nithi governor.
Tharaka Nithi county government and the said multi-agencies have promised to keep up with the raids in the whole county to rid streets off substances that would destroy the future of the youths.
