Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has called for the closure of radio stations in Marsabit believed to be spreading messages of hate.

Speaking when he hosted an Interfaith delegation from Marsabit, Dr. Matiang’i said the government will not relent in its disarmament exercise and called for support from the local residents.

He cautioned those behind the recent clashes in the area saying that the Government was keen on ensuring peace prevails in all corners of the republic.

The recent skirmishes that rocked the county have led to the death of over 20 civilians with hundreds fleeing their homes for safety.

A section of the locals blamed the clashes on incitement by political leaders while calling on the Government to increase reconciliation efforts in the County.

The CS is expected to tour the region in a fortnight to asses the security situation as well as hold meetings with religious and political leaders.
